Maybe if there are "families" of cards, where a number of cards all have the same basic illustration but there are subtle differences so you can't be sure it's the card you've seen previously or not.

I think the card tells you what type of encounter it is (the previous approach, with the die rolling and the look-up chart, would go away), but you have to judge from the artwork how many AP in that category are required. I guess the range is bounded between 1-6 so maybe it's reasonable/realistic to be able to guess how difficult the challenge is. Or maybe the card should just tell you the category and the number, to make it simple.Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14734586120736013744noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5577078228137246836.post-54439778075534050002012-04-02T13:12:06.507-07:002012-04-02T13:12:06.507-07:00I must admit that, while I'm not sure if I lov...I must admit that, while I'm not sure if I love the idea overall, it does seem very neat!

There could simply be a crap-ton of cards, to avoid the "I studied this card already" syndrome. Also, when any given card comes up, your Enemy Operative track won't always be the same (so seeing a particular character won't necessarily mean anything), and the player's Phobia won't necessarily be the same ("He'd never have made it past the rats." vs "Why did it have to be Snakes!").

But your point about outlay of cards vs image on encounter is a good one. Would the race aspect factor in there? You don't have time to mentally check the chart for type of encounter, level of encounter, number of cards required to pass - without giving opponents enough time to find phobias and whatnot.

Also, if you jump straight to the number of cards, then maybe you miss out on the item.Seth Jaffeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12449603052617321357noreply@blogger.com
